I'll stop rambling now and let Jennifer tell us more about her services...
What do you do and what services do you offer?"I am a professional Wedding & Portrait Photographer currently based in Devon, but moving to the North East very soon! I'm from the Outer Hebrides of Scotland so I travel up and down the country all the time. I love an adventure so I'm available UK wide. I offer creative and affordable wedding photography with one basic full day package. I do however have options for half day packages or creative portrait sessions to fit whatever your needs are for your special day. I love being creative. I capture your day like a story unfolding, and make sure to get all the little details mixed in with a few creative portraits to leave you with photos that you will treasure forever."
How long have you been doing what you do?"Professionally, about a year. Last year was mostly client meetings, pre-wedding shoots and only a few weddings. 2014 is my first full on year of weddings and it's going great so far!"
How did you get into it, how did you start your business?"I've loved taking photos for as long as I can remember, my dad has a pretty keen interest in photography so I guess I got it from him! My obsession started with disposable cameras, then on to various different types of film and instant cameras before getting my first DSLR from my parents for my 21st birthday. I've always been pretty creative and in 2009 I decided I wanted to study the subject and I set off for Newcastle and did a Foundation Degree in Commercial Photographic Practice. I shot my first wedding in December 2009 as a favour for a friend and that's when it hit me! I LOVED it. I wanted to pursue a career in Photography. I saved up for a few years to buy equipment, and I did wedding photography for friends to help build my portfolio. I set up a website and started advertising through Gumtree and Facebook, from there I started to get enquiries and eventually bookings! It took a lot of time and effort to get things started, but I can't think of anything else I'd rather do, it was definitely worth it! It's been an amazing adventure so far and I've learned a lot over the years... long may it continue!"
What makes your business stand out from the crowd?"When I shoot a wedding I put my heart and soul into it. I have a very personal approach to my weddings and I think it's important to really get to know the couples I work with. From the moment we meet until the day you say “I do” I'll be there to support you through the stress of planning a wedding! I often have brides texting me to talk about décor and lighting and other little things. I live and breathe weddings and that is pretty helpful to anyone planning one! On the day my calm and relaxed approach to photography really puts people at ease. I love to observe and capture all the little details but I also think it's important to mix in a few creative portraits along the way. Every wedding has a different feel to it and I try to capture that so when you look back at your photos you feel like you are back there enjoying your day all over again! I make sure you get what you want in my own unique and creative way."
How does your business fit into the Pretty Thrifty ethos of affordability without cutting corners on quality or compromising on your ideas?"I have one standard full day wedding package and try to keep things simple, but if you are working on a budget I'll always try my best to accommodate your needs. I charge £750 for my full day wedding package and that includes a pre-wedding shoot if you want one! I try to arrange client meetings and pre-wedding shoots on the same day so we can get to know each other and so you can get a feel for the way I work. I travel a lot within the UK for weddings but I make sure all my costs are included in the package. I am pretty thrifty when it comes to travelling across the country and have friends in a lot of different places... that always helps! I don't believe in cutting corners or compromising on my ideas and I don't ever feel like I need to. I love what I do and I would never jeopardise the quality of my work!"
Do you have any special products/ offers/ competitions or events you’d like to promote?"I'd like to offer Pretty Thrifty readers 20% off my full day photography package for weddings in 2015. Just quote PRETTYTHRIFTY when sending an enquiry. I'm also offering a discount for readers in the North East of England. I'm moving back up to the North East at the end of June and have some space available for late bookings in July & September this year. I'd like stay closer to home so I'm offering my full day package for just £500 if you are getting married in the North East! Just get in touch with the date and location and I'll back to you with my availability."
What’s the best thing about doing what you do?"I love meeting new people, getting to know my clients and being a part of their day. Its such an amazing experience, but I'd have to say the best part is sitting back and looking at what I've created. Once the editing is done and I see the finished result, it feels great to have produced something I know my clients will love and cherish for years to come."
Do you have a money saving tip for Brides & Grooms to be?"When it comes to saving money when you are planning your wedding, I think it's good to agree on a budget and try your best to stick to it. Make sure you do your research and use wedding blogs, websites, and magazines for inspiration and money saving tips. There is so much information out there and some really helpful tutorials if you want to get crafty and do it all yourself!"
So there you have it, affordable wedding photographers do exist!
