Whatever time of year you're planning your wedding for make sure you're photographer is around for 'golden hour' and make sure that the two of you can escape for a few minutes to get the BEST portraits ever.

Golden hour portraits are magical, at this time of year you're looking at 4pm - 5pm, just as the sun is setting. This can be a bit of a tricky time to factor into your wedding day but I promise you it will be worth it! You're probably planning to be sat eating your dinner at this time, so why not sneak out during desert while everyone else is being served (just make sure you've got all the chocolate off your face first...)

My top tips for golden hour portraits...

Choose somewhere with a view

Rolling hills in the background look amazing with the sun on it's way out but when you're planning your photos don't forget which way is West!

Prior Planning Prevents.... well you know

Check what time the sun sets at the time of year that your wedding is booked for and make sure the two of you will be free at that time. You don't get long so if you need to jump in the car to drive to a nearby location make sure you factor that time in too, there is NOTHING worse than arriving at your ideal venue to see the sun has already set...

Visit the venue

Visit at sunset and see how it goes down, preferable at the same time of year (if you're that organised) take your camera and send the photos to your photographer if they're from out of town. If you go for a local photographer chances are they will know some awesome local spots for golden hour portraits!

Wear sensible shoes

Ok so that's the most boring advice ever but if you want an awesome photo like the one above you're going to find climing over that fence a LOT easier if you're not in your 5" heels
